I’m always surprised by what often happens on the days when I am so busy with a project or something, and we don’t have much “structured” time. I always start feeling guilty, because I am not nearly as focused on the girls’ learning.
Somehow though, they always seem to emerge into a new topic or interest on those days because there is less structure and they are free-thinking. Usually we wouldn’t have discovered that topic if the day had been more structured. There’s a place for both structure and freedom. I think the key to enjoying both is flexibility and letting go of guilt. Open your eyes to what they are experiencing in their freedom, to where their mind goes and what they find.
