This summer, my girls found the magic trick books at the library. They were fascinated with them for days, trying to perfect their tricks.
I saw that as part of their special summer programs, the library was having a real magician come to do a magic show for families. We surprised the girls by taking them to the magic show.
It was a thrill. To them, the simple tricks were breathtaking and awe-inspiring. Most of all, it inspired them to work harder to perfect their own magic skills.
This was a simple activity, but a strong reminder to me to seek out opportunities to expand their experience in areas that they are currently interested in. There is nothing like the inspiration of the real thing. This is a crucial facet to child-led learning. Let them explore, but be there to support their exploration in ways that you can see will enrich and inspire.
