We’ve recently begun using Tinybop’s Human Body app and we are nuts about it!
The Human Body is the first app in the Tinybop Explorer’s Library. Everything, from the bones and brain to cells and veins, is animated by particle physics in this interactive playscape. Children can poke, probe, and examine the skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems. Each app contains a recording tool so you and your child can ask questions, listen, and respond to each other.
This app is wildly fun, and the interactions are incredible, from the visuals to the cross-sections to the sound effects. There’s always something new and fun to discover. You can see how different systems interact under various stimuli, or you can look at one system close-up. You can manipulate just about any system in order to see how it works.
This app is like climbing inside your own body for an amazing tour. All of our kids, ages 2-10, love it for different reasons. Our 3.5-year-old, for example, loves to zoom in on the inner ear and talk to the child. She can see the sound waves from her own voice travel into the ear and the signals then go to the brain. It fascinates her!
One of my favorite features is the amount of parental control you have. The urogenital systems are an optional enhancement (available for an additional purchase and download), but are not automatically included. I like that they can be added for the children you choose when you are ready.
I highly recommend this app for children (and parents!) of all ages!
I just happened to find your blog recently, can’t remember exactly how I got here but I’m so excited and appreciative about what you are doing and sharing. My oldest just turned 5 and we have been seriously considering homeschooling over the past year (something we had never planned on before). The more research and experimenting I have done the past year, the more I am getting on board with the unschooling philosophy. It is so motivating and relieving to see a family putting it into practice, and to read your observations and thoughts about the process. Thanks for putting this out there, I’ll be reading and pinning away in the archives :).
Thank you for reading, Ashley! So glad to have you here!
